2009 TAMPA BAY TEEN SUMMIT SCHOLAR BOWL QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

 

1.    Teams will be organized into brackets. Teams will be chosen randomly based on random drawings.

2.    The tournament is single elimination. Each game will have a 15 minute time limit.

3.    Upon confirmed registration for the Brain Bowl or the Tampa Bay Teen Summit Challenge, each team will receive a packet of study questions.

4.    All questions will not come from the study questions.

5.    Tie Breaker questions will be obtained from the following categories:

                a. Mathematics

                b. Biology

6.    Each team will receive one point for answering the question correctly. The first team to attain 10 points within the prescribed time period wins the round. The margin of victory must be 2 points. In the event of a tie or a margin of victory of 1 point, the teams will proceed into a Sudden Death round.

7.    Sudden Death round:

                a. Sudden Death is a speed round.

                b. The team member who signals in first will have the opportunity to answer the              question. If the team misses the question, the opposing team has the              opportunity to answer the question.

8.    There will be a moderator, a chief judge, score keeper and a time-keeper. The chief judge will have the final judgment on any outcome in regards to the scholars bowl.

9.    Each team must designate a team captain to meet with the officials and other team representatives before the competition ensues.

10.  The team captain is the official spokesperson for the team and is the only person who may respond to the questions. The team captain may designate another a team member to respond to a particular question during the rounds. The team has 15 seconds to confer before responding to the question.

11.  Each team may consist of 5 team members (4 competitors and an alternate).

                a. An alternate may sit behind the team while in play but cannot confer with the              team while the team is competing.

                b. Alternates can be interchangeable but only during sudden death and in between              games.

                c. Alternates will not be able to play while a game is in session.
