NON-GREEK STEP SHOW COMPETITION

The Non-Greek Step Show will be a
wonderful display of talent, creativity, and school spirit. Traditionally,
step shows have been for college Greek organizations, but over the years, this
spirited tradition has filtered down to our secondary school, community and
church youth groups. Exposure to this
aspect of college life will encourage them to set higher goals and more
importantly obtain them as well. The teams can
consist of boys, girls or co-ed. There will scholarship
prizes and trophies given away to the winners.
RULES
- All step Teams must have a minimum of 5 members and no more than a maximum of 20.
- All special effects and stage props (i.e. Fireworks, pyrotechnics, backdrops, furniture etc.) must be approved by the chairperson of the Step show prior to three weeks of the show
- All teams are required to pre-register for the show via the tampaalphas.com website
- Profanity, nudity, and sexual content of Steps and dance moves are strictly prohibited. Lyrical content of Music must be free of profanity. Any borderline lyrics must be approved by the step show chairman
- TIME LIMITS: “GORILLA THRILLA” - Each Team will have ten minutes to perform with a two minute grace period. 12 minutes total
- SCORE REDUCTION due to Excessive Time: “GORILLA THRILLA” - 5 points will be deducted from a team’ total score for every 10
- seconds they are on the floor. Deductions will begin at 12:01 mins.
- Points will be assessed on a 100 point scale. (Step Criteria will be mailed to each team advisor).
- A team representative will be required to meet with the step show chairman and judges at the day of the show:
- The Judges decisions will be the final decision
- Only two stage hands will be regarded as part of a show. These members are intended to be a music person and prop support. Stage hands can be used in any capacity a team coach sees fit.
- All teams must report to the step show site on time. A 10 point deduction will be assessed for any teams that do not arrive at the
- established time by the chairperson.
- The Preliminaries will be in bracket form and each team will only those placed in their bracket.
- A total of 14 teams will be granted the right to advance to the finals. The Show will consist of 5 high school boys teams, 5 high school girls teams, 2 middle school boys teams, and 2 middle school girls teams.
- No coed teams are allowed to compete.
- Teams will be judged on the following criteria:
a. Precision
b. Originality
c. Attire
d. Showmanship
e. Overall performance
